GOV. Nyesom Wike cancels Igbo meeting in Oyigbo over security concerns

‍The report reaching the desk of the media director of The Igbo Thunderbolt news proved that the Rivers State Government has canceled  a planned general meeting of Igbo groups under the auspices of the United Igbo Community (UIC) in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state. 

The Nyesom Wike government of Rivers state, in a statement by Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, attributed the cancellation to security reasons.

In their make believe reason, they said Oyigbo is still recovering from bloody attacks reportedly carried out by members of the proscribed Indigeneous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) during last year’s #EndSARS protest.

Security agencies accused IPOB of killing five soldiers, four policemen and destroying all the police formations, including the police area command headquarters in the area.

The statement said: “Rivers State Government has cancelled the planned general meeting of the United Igbo Community scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area because of security reasons.

“Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure that the said meeting does not hold to forestall a break down of law and order.

Igbo Peoples Union frowns at such move by a government that pledged to obey peoples right to freedom of movement and association and also wondered why such inhuman treatment will be meted to Ndigbo that are widely known and rated as the most peaceful people in the world over. This is a joke taken too far against the peace loving Igbos in Rivers state.
With this clandestine move by the government of Rivers state, it shows that Ndigbo are highly suspected for the wrong motive even when they are there developing every state of the federation and the world over.
Igbo Peoples Union therefore, calls on well meaning Igbo lovers, sons, daughters, OHANAEZE Ndigbo worldwide and other patriotic Igbo groups to join hands in condemning this barbaric act of hatred against a patriotic tribe in this contraption called Nigeria because if not jointly condemned, we should be prepared to expect the worst from various state governments.

Before running into conclusion of supporting this sacrilegious act, do take time to ask some pertinent questions like;  Why is the same meeting prevention not meted against the rivers indigenes, Fulani herdsmen, the Yoruba, HAUSA community etc.
